Brittany Lueken's exhibition includes an impressive diversity in style, while obvious these are works of one mind. The lush colors coupled with intricate detail or drawing often suggest otherworldly settings. Her artworks include large, lively-colored canvases, delicate black and white drawings, and small collages using gauche and the remnants of an Indian calendar. A set of small, black canvases appear to be a collection of images from another universe. Quiet all around yet massive and complex at or above the surface, Lueken's planets are even more mysterious than those beyond the telescope.
Brittany Lueken deals with the macro or the micro-and at times both. She conveys her interest in the interaction of opposites by using elements of push and pull, dark and light, all within the vastness of space combined with tiny details. Her work draws the viewer in for an intimate show of the infinite.
Brittany Lueken, a young emerging St. Louis artist, received her BFA in painting from Webster University in 2001. Exhibitions of her work include the Open Studios Exhibition 2007 by the St. Louis Contemporary Art Museum and a number of galleries in St. Louis, Chicago, and Vienna, Austria.
