Certification
vs Registration
Currently in
the United States, there are no national laws governing the teaching of yoga.
You do not need to be certified or registered in order to teach yoga. However,
prior to hiring a yoga teacher, some students and many businesses ask to see
credentials from the teacher in the form of certification and/or registration.
To be a
certified yoga
teacher, you must complete a yoga teacher training program from a certified
Teacher training school. There are many schools, including Marbles that offer
yoga teacher certification. The certification requirements of different schools
vary widely across the industry. Most schools offer a minimum of a 200-hour
certification program.
This program will give you the skills needed to teach yoga, but if you want to be recognized by the Yoga Alliance, you will need to complete another 100 hours of training.
The
Yoga Register
The Yoga Register is an international yoga teacher registry. When you graduate from the Marbles Program you are automatically qualified to join The Yoga Register. You may use the additional initials
"YRT"
(Yoga Register Teacher) after your name in your marketing materials to indicate
that you are a registered yoga teacher.
Yoga
Alliance
Yoga Alliance registry is a national registry. When you graduate from 2, two week sessions at Marbles, you will qualify to join Yoga Alliance registry. You may use the additional initials "RYT" (Registered Yoga Teacher) after your name.
Class

lecture,
discussion, teaching practicum and feedback.

Frequently
asked questions:
When
will I find out if I have been accepted into the
program?
After
you submit your completed Teacher Training Application, you
will be contacted via email within 2 weeks.
Your payment will be processed upon acceptance.
If
you are not accepted into the program, your teacher training
coordinator
will present a pathway that will help you prepare for a
future
teacher training.
How
proficient in yoga do you have to be to do the program?
The
Marbles Yoga Teacher Training programs include a vigorous
two-hour
asana practice. We strongly recommend that applicants
have 6 months of a consistent asana practice. We recommend that
if you have never done yoga before, that you wait to do the training
until after you have some yoga under your belt. You will
not
benefit from learning yoga basics while simultaneously learning
how
to teach. That being said, you If you have a regular yoga
practice,
you may be more ready than you think. We are looking for
our
trainees with a solid foundation in the basic and fundamental
yoga
postures. An advanced practitioner
is not a
person
who can move deep into advanced postures. An advanced
practitioner
is someone who comes to the mat with a level of
maturity,
a willingness to learn and an understanding of the limits
of
their own body. Keep in mind this program is not only for
aspiring
teachers, but people who want to deepen their practice.
How
many students are enrolled in each Teacher Training at
one
time? What is the typical age range of the participants?
Groups
will be between 20-30 individuals in our trainings. Students
generally
range in age from 25-65 years of age.
What
is the Yoga Alliance?
Yoga
Alliance is an organization that was started in 1999 as a way
to
create nationally recognized standards for yoga teachers and
yoga
teacher trainings. More and more yoga studios across the
country
are requiring their teachers to register with the Yoga
Alliance,
either at the 200 or 500 hour level. Yoga Alliance
registration,
however, is not a legal requirement for teaching yoga.
Currently
there are no legal certification requirements to be a yoga
teacher.
Will
I be qualified to teach yoga once I complete the 200-
Hour
Teacher Training Program?
Yes!
With the successful completion of all the requirements of the
program,
including contact hours, homework, and exam, you will
receive
your Letter of Completion and Diploma evidencing your
training. Graduates of this program can usually
begin
teaching in small studios, gyms, with private clientele (friends
and
family), etc. This training is a thorough, professional training
for becoming a highly skilled yoga teacher.
What
if I want to teach at Marbles Yoga Studio?
Marbles
Yoga Studio seeks a diverse, committed, well-trained
faculty,
who uphold our high standard of quality for safe, effective,
accessible teaching in the field of yoga. This
Program
is the main gateway onto the Marbles Yoga Studio.
What
sets the Marbles Yoga Teacher Training Program apart
from
other programs?
¥
Affordability: Our program is one of the most reasonably priced
programs
available. It is important to us to provide excellent quality
at a
price people can afford.
¥
Eclectic Style: The Marbles YTT Program does not endorse any one
style
of yoga over another. We teach what we call Ònon-
denominationalÓ
hatha yoga. We work with aspiring teachers to find
their
own style, to help them reach their full potential within a
single
style, or to blend multiple styles into their own synthesis of
yoga.
We encourage self expression so that teachers learn to give of
themselves
rather than just reciting what someone else told them.
¥
Accommodating: The Marbles YTT Program is designed to
accommodate
the needs of our students who do not live near St.
Louis.
Our program requires participants to travel to Mound Ridge
Camp for only one 3-day retreat. The remaining
requirements can be satisfied at Marbles Yoga Studio and
in the student's own community and
by
remote instruction, working with their advisors.
¥
Ongoing Peer Support: Some of the toughest challenges faced by
an
aspiring yoga teacher may occur after graduation from teacher
training.
This is why we encourage our students to form friendships
in
the program and to learn to listen to each other, share ideas, and
support
each other throughout the teacher training program and
long
after the intensive is over.
¥ Setting: The first 2 weeks will be held at Marbles Yoga Studio.
Students will be able to take advantage of beauty and convenience of the studio.
The 3 day retreat at Mound Ridge Camp,
near
St. James, Missouri provides participants with a connection to
nature
away from the daily stresses of life. Students experience
immersion
in a slower pace of life. The daily rhythms of the camp
help
us to achieve a calm, focused mind and an open heart. A large
part
of the success of our program can be directly attributed to the
beauty
and peace of the surroundings.
How
much yoga experience do I need before signing up for
the
program?
We do
not require any previous yoga teaching experience prior to
enrolling
in the Marbles YTT program. However, prior to attending
the training we do require that you have the
equivalent
of six month's yoga, preferably in a classroom setting with a yoga
teacher.
These hours can include attending yoga conferences,
workshops,
retreats, and private lessons. The reasoning behind this
request
is that having some familiarity with the yoga postures
enhances
deeper-level learning during the intensive. It will also be
easier
because you are adding to your depth of understanding,
rather
than just being introduced to information. We understand
that
there are circumstances, such as living in a remote area, where
you
might not be able to find a yoga class. In that situation, we will
review
extenuating circumstances on an individual basis. We will
work
with you to find alternative solutions such as practicing with
yoga
videos, or possibly accepting prior experience with teachers
from
disciplines similar to yoga. In order to get a broad base of
experience,
we recommend that wherever possible, students
consider
exploring different styles of yoga, studios, and teachers
prior
to the intensive.
I'm
not very flexible and I'm overweight. Can I still attend
the
teacher training?
Yoga
is not about being flexible, young or thin. You do not have to be
flexible, nor do you ha
